You are not your mistakes. No matter what you tell yourself or other people tell you, you are not your mistakes! I believe there’s a difference between your true identity and being/acting like something. For example you can “be mean” but it doesn’t mean that’s actually who you are. It just means you are acting like someone you are not. I believe if we are an image of God, that means we are who he created us to be. But ever since mankind sinned, we’ve been born into sin, which is why it messes us up. Galatians 5:22-25 states, “But the fruit that the Spirit produces in a person’s life is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these kinds of things. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their sinful self. They have given up their old selfish feelings and the evil things they wanted to do. We get our new life from the Spirit, so we should follow the Spirit.” That means there are certain things in life that were never meant to be a part of us. When we take on God’s spirit, we are filled with everything that God is. We are filled with fruits and beings that God has always called us to have and be. Everything in life is a spirit. That’s why you notice who you surround yourself with is who you will be. If you hang out with bad people, that’s who you’ll be. If you hang out with people who gossip that is what you will be, a gossiper. If you hang out with people who smoke, no matter how much you don’t like it. You will end up being and doing what they do. If you hang out with people who love the Lord, that is exactly who you will be; a lover of Christ. If you hang out with hardworking people who have goals for themselves, that’s what you will push yourself to do. It’s easy to attract certain things or to be things you surround yourself with. But at the end of the day it’s what you choose to do with your life. I don’t believe that God created us to be mean, angry, jealous, dumb, depressed, suicidal, claustrophobic, confused, arrogant, liars, lazy, impatient, selfish, etc. His character most definitely doesn’t fall into any of those categories. I feel like those traits are beings we experience once we enter this world because of sin. These are spirits that are thrown to us in this world but we can choose to receive them or not. Once you invite the Holy Spirit to intervene, he removes all the ugliness and sin we allowed to enter in our lives. I remember taking a sociology class and they would say people tend to act like what they are labeled to be as in society. If society tells them they are criminals they are going to continue to be like criminals. It doesn’t actually mean that’s who they are, but that’s what they are told. Most of these people don’t want to be what they are told to be. But they feel like they have to act like this character because It’s what is expected of them to be. Yes they were pushed to be like that, but at the end of the day they chose to be like that. That’s why it’s important to understand what you confess or say about another person. We need to stop trying to look to the world to identify us. They don’t know us, so why do we care what they think? They are just going to confuse us and not tell us who we really are. They look at our mistakes and flaws. They don’t define us with mercy, love and compassion. Our creator God; should be the ONLY one that’s able to define us, he created us period. God sees past our sins and mistakes. He sees the real us, I mean he only knitted us in our mothers womb for almost 9 months, I think he would know our true beings… If I am being a liar, it doesn’t actually mean I’m a liar. God doesn’t look at his children and say, “this one’s a liar”. No! He says we are honest, loved, wanted, and cared for. He doesn’t see us the way the world does. Another thing is when people don’t know who they actually are, they are going to look for other people’s approval. They are going to accept anything people tell them. They aren’t sure of themselves so of course they are going to try to find their answer on others. I know this because that used to be me. People would call me fat, ugly, dumb, etc. I would believe them because I didn’t know who I was. Now I know I am a daughter of God! You have to remove your mistakes from who God actually created you to be. You are not your mistakes because God didn’t say that’s who you are. That’s just something we decided to take on while we were away from God. There is always still a chance for us to get to know the real us by connecting ourselves with him. Once you get to know the Father, you get to know the real you… Everything in life is a choice. You choose what you want to be like. God designed us a certain way, but at the end of the day it’s what we choose to be. What I find so beautiful about God is that he doesn’t define us by our mistakes. In fact when we sin he created a way where we can have redemption. He knew we would sin, but wanted to create a way to always bring us back home if we somehow lost our way. You have a choice, free will… So who will you choose to be today..?
